They say big things come in small packages, and I am living proof of that. I am a Chicago-based UX designer with over a decade of graphic design experience. My career extends from production design to communications design, from the automotive industry to the private club world. Over the past few years, as I perfected my style, I was met with the realization that my aptitude and instincts had evolved to deeper levels than graphic design requires. I found myself in search of something more. My focus and skill shifted to the “Why’s” rather than the “What’s”; the reason behind Design.
As I began to entertain the notion of transitioning from Graphic Design to UX Design, I was surprised to discover how fitting the core values of UX Design are to my own life experience; moreso than those of Graphic Design. I have an uncanny ability to read and understand people’s wants and needs, a naturally disarming presence, and a cool head that puts at ease whomever I’m speaking with. I have a knack for conversation, enhanced by my experience working as a restaurant server throughout my twenties. The hospitality industry offers unique insights and the opportunity to develop the soft skills needed for success in life. Ten years’ experience in the industry strengthened my instincts as a communicator and a creative problem-solver and taught me the value of organizational skills.
I’m a natural empathizer who enjoys getting to the bottom of questions that don’t readily have answers. My decision to graduate from Graphic to UX Design has been a life-changing and surprisingly life-affirming adventure. I’ve discovered my passion again.
